The 'Core Sample' garden was transformed for the 8th edition of the
International
Garden Festival, in Grand-Métis, Quebec. The garden intensifies
its connection to the region through a collection of textures from the
local landscape. The collection process is accompanied by a classification
system to lend clarity to the new objects and their relations. Organized
in a grid the core samples produce the effect of a planted field, illuminating
the purpose of the core sample to determine land viability. Furthering
this theme, rolling mounds flow with a variety of grains to add dynamic
movement to this feature. The long grasses catch and respond to the
wind, providing animation to the land forms. Suggesting multiple scales,
'Core Sample' draws parallels to evoke a connection to the region and
the grains that compose it.
