This garden for the 7th edition of the International Garden Festival,
in Grand-Métis, Quebec, examines the history and process of systematic
exploration as a means to understand landscapes. It reveals this tendency
in the garden, by placing a structured grid of core samples across an
undulating topography. The core samples mark the inclination to measure
and organize the contents of a garden and celebrate notions of collection,
sampling, and discovery. The garden is on display from June 24 to October
1, 2006. 'Core Sample' was one of the gardens chosen, from over 95 submissions
from 14 countries, constituting the highest number of entries since
the inauguration of the Festival in 2000. For more information visit
