The 'Reassembling
Ecologies' proposal for Gateway
National Recreation Area recognizes the need for a strong definition
of programs that allows for sensitive ecologies and recreation to coexist.
It attempts to repair and rebuild the deteriorating ecologies by concentrating
disparate programs and ailing or abandoned structures within an intense
central spine of active recreation along Floyd Bennett Field's historic
runway. 'Reassembling Ecologies' reorganizes territories and infrastructures,
allowing intensive recreation to exist within flourishing ecologies.
'Reassembling Ecologies'
was awarded second prize in the Envisioning
Gateway Competition held by the Van
Alen Institute.
