Downtown Los Angeles is a contiguous layer of concrete and asphalt. By transforming marginalized and abandoned sites, an urban ecology network can be rapidly realized. The later conversion of rail corridors and the vehicular grid into this system will declare it a no car zone. Lands that were once marginalized, with overworked infrastructures, now drive the change that puts ecological function into the existing urban fabric. The Cleantech district will be the production zone for clean energy, and serve as a testing ground for economic initiatives. When accounted, the soon to be obsolete infrastructure, opened to the soil and transformed as a cohesive framework, will form a 51% permeable network, to have controlling interest in guiding a resilient and intertwined ecological economy.
